Earth Paws Dog Treats Review

13 (2 of 10).jpg

Earlier this week, we received a package from a local company called Earth Paws. The owner of the business is a fellow corgi owner, and he wants to create 100% natural treats made with human grade ingredients for our furry friends. The goal of Earth Paws is to offer an alternative to highly processed dog products out there in the market. Each ingredient is carefully hand selected, responsibly sourced, and 100% approved for human consumption. Currently Earth Paws offers two products (more recipes are in the works!) and we were sent each product for Bear and Momo to review.

Earth Paws donates a portion of every sale to Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind. The money will help provide training for guide dogs and their future owners who are blind or have low vision.

The first product is the Sweet Potato Dental Treats for dogs. We see a lot of sweet potato chews in pet stores, and many of those are soft, chewy, and thin. Earth Paws makes super dense and hard chews to help prevent the build-up of plaque and tartar. Sweet potatoes are also packed with essential minerals (potassium, calcium, iron) and vitamins (A, C, B6), high in dietary fiber (maintains bowel health), and low in fat. These chews are possibly the thickest sweet potato treats we have seen in the market. Each chew is approximately the size of my palm. We think these highly digestible Earth Paws treats are a good natural alternative to bone and raw hide chews (which can break teeth and/or get stuck in the digestive track).

Momo is quite a picky eater and he prefers meat treats so not much interest was shown from him for these chews. Also, he lost quite a few baby teeth recently so he wasn’t really able to chew on these treats. Bear, on the other hand, really enjoys gnawing on these sweet potatoes. He has really strong teeth and jaws, and the fact he has to really work at it to break it into smaller pieces shows that these treats are definitely harder than the other ones we’ve purchased in stores. We like that it takes Bear quite a while to get through one piece. We find that these sweet potato chews can stain carpets, so just be careful where you give the pups these snacks!

The second product is the Sardine Treats for dogs and cats - yay for inclusion of our fellow feline buddies! We volunteer at a local Cat Sanctuary so we can not wait to share these treats with the cats there! According to Earth Paws, many companies in North America sell repackaged dried sardines from Asian markets. This is an issue because the products are loaded with sodium, even the “unsalted” ones! Many sardine products for pets contain more sodium than the daily recommended intake in a SINGLE sardine for small dogs and cats. When the sodium is too high, it can cause kidney failure and sodium poisoning in our pets. Earth Paws use an ice bath extraction system to remove the sodium level down to 0.1%, so we do not have to worry about harming our pets. These treats are a great source of protein, calcium, vitamins, and Omegas 3 & 6 fatty acids (good for cognitive function, heart, joint flexibility, healthier skin and coat). Worried about mercury levels? No need! Sardines have a short life cycle so they do not accumulate mercury.

Both pups LOVE these sardine treats! We love how each sardine can be easily broken into smaller pieces so we can use it for training sessions. Bear can be a bit lazy and refuse to do tricks that are a little more difficult (such as stand-up and sit pretty), but when the sardine treats come out he suddenly becomes a Superdog. Another great thing about these treats is that when the pup are a little picky/bored with their food, we break these sardines into small pieces and sprinkle them onto the pups’ food as a meal topper. Works like a charm every time!

Final Thoughts: The pups really enjoyed reviewing these delicious treats from Earth Paws. We absolutely love how they use a limited number of ingredients and that each ingredient is 100% approved for human consumption. The ingredients picked are also healthy for dogs to eat, so we know that the company cares for the well-being of our pets.  Even though Momo is not able to review the Sweet Potato Dental Treats right now, we are hopeful he will enjoy them when his adult teeth start coming in! The Sardine Treats were a big hit with both dogs, and we know the cats at the Cat Sanctuary will enjoy them, too! Earth Paws currently sell their products at local farmer's markets as well as on their website. If you are interested in getting some all-natural treats by Earth Paws, feel free to take a look at their website (there is a wheel you can spin on their site to get some discount off your order). Thanks again to Earth Paws for sending us these awesome treats for Bear and Momo to review!
