Summer in Vancouver has been scorching hot this year, and we were excited to have Bear and Momo test out Canada Pooch's Chill Seeker Cooling Vests! There are no chemical coolant in these vests, so we can be assured our pups won't get poisoned (safety first!). We took the boys out to Steveston's Garry Point Park to watch the lovely sunset, and here are some pictures of them wearing these vests. We think they look really funny and adorable wearing matching outfits. We got asked a few times whether or not Bear is Momo's mother (even though they look nothing alike lol!)
Available in sizes 10 through 32. Bear wears a size 26. Momo wears a size 18. These vests retail for $35+ (depending on the size). The vests come in just one colour (aqua) at this point in time.
The function of the Chill Seeker Cooling Vest is to keep dogs feeling cool on hot summer days. Vests that use evaporative cooling technology work best in dry air, which Vancouver has! All you have to do is add water to the water-retaining cooling vest, wring out excess water, and adjust the 2 chest buckles to put the vest on your pup. As the water evaporates over time, it will create a temperature drop in the air surrounding your pup’s body. It can also help accelerate the removal of heat from your pup. When the vest is starting to feel a bit dry, we just sprinkle some more water from our water bottle to dampen it. Super easy!
We like how the vest doesn’t make Bear and Momo’s fur wet! When we remove the vest, their fur feels dry, yet cool to the touch. It's sort of magical, considering how damp the vest can get! We also appreciate the inclusion of a reflective lining on the cooling vest, to ensure our pups stay in sight during all hours of the day. The only thing we would change is the buckle part. Because Momo has an abnormally long body (but quite slim), many clothes do not fit him perfectly. We wanted to make sure the vest was able to cover the majority of his torso so we ordered a size 18, but we were unable to fully adjust the chest buckles to fit his slender frame, which caused the vest to shift slightly during our walks. We have made some minor alterations to the vest to fix this problem. Maybe next time we will order a size 16 instead! Despite this issue, we love the cooling vests! We find the boys pant significantly less when wearing these, and it's nice knowing they feel a bit more comfortable in this heat (especially Bear with that glorious but thick coat!) These vests stay damp for a long time - we put them on the pups when we hang out in the backyard and they are still wet after 2-3 hours!
