Pincause x HSUS’s Stop Puppy Mills Campaign

The folks over at Pincause are offering two pin designs for their collaboration with the Humane Society of the United States - the Puppy Pin and the People Pin. Bear and Momo are both modelling the Puppy Pin in the photo below. Each pin sold raises $2 for the HSUS's Stop Puppy Mills campaign. We were asked to join in on the movement and help raise awareness about the dangers of buying dogs from pet stores/online, as well as why everyone should consider adoption as their first option when looking for a pet!

If you purchase puppies from pet stores or online, you could be supporting puppy mills. Dogs in puppy mills typically live in overcrowded and filthy environments. To reduce cost, the dogs are often not given proper medical care, food, or water. Females are bred as often as possible to maximize profits, and once they can no longer reproduce, they are often abandoned or killed. The puppies from puppy mills are prone to congenital and hereditary disorders, and many also suffer from behavioural problems due to inadequate time spent with littermate and their mothers.

When you adopt a dog from a shelter or a rescue organization, you are:

  1. Saving their life by making them a part of your family
  2. Opening up shelter space for another animal who needs it
  3. Reducing demand for puppy mill dogs

Millions of adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year because there are not enough shelter space to accommodate the large number of animals coming into shelters. If there are more people who consider adoption as their first choice (instead of buying from pet stores or online), the number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically.

As many of you know, Bear and Momo are both adopted, so we thought they would be perfect “Puptivists” for this campaign. We knew we wanted to open our hearts and our homes to a dog who truly needed them, and so we decided to look for adoptable dogs to expand our family. We are so lucky that both Bear and Momo chose us as their new parents, and we are so happy that we are able to give them a loving home.
